Paulette Goddard (b.3 June 1910 – Apr 23, 1990) was an American actress, child model, and Broadway performer. As a Ziegfeld Girl, she became a star of Paramount Pictures in the 1940s. Her first major role was Charlie Chaplin's leading lady in Modern Times and then Chaplin's subsequent film The Great Dictator. Her first (of three marriages) was to Charlie Chaplin. Her career continued to develop with roles in "The Dictator" (1940) and "So Proudly We Hail!" (1943), which earned her an Oscar nomination.
Duffy photographed Paulette Goddard in New York following the reissue of "Modern Times" (1936). The Charlie Chaplin film was re-released, focussing attention back on Goddard in the early seventies.
The year Duffy photographed her would mark her last film role in December 1972.
