The article by Jeffrey Bernard titled 'A Litte Bit of Drama' detailed a fraught project that was already four years in the making by that point.
Robert Knights is described as a director, 33, left Cambridge in 1964 and became ASM at Hampstead Theatre Club, then assistant director Bristol Old Vic, for two years, and assistant director Royal Court. Joined BBC training scheme then directed Dennis Potter's Only Make Believe; also The After Dinner Game and The Saliva Milk Shake. Knights is serious, but not a solemn sort of person.
Tom Conti received a BAFTA nomination for this project and went on to star with David Bowie in 'Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence in 1983 and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 1984. More recently, Conti played Albert Einstein in Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' (2023), which won the Oscar for best motion picture of the year 2024.
