Baroness Joan Bakewell DBE, HonFBA, FRSA, Born 16th April 1933 in Stockport, is an English journalist, television presenter and Labour Party peer. Baroness Bakewell is president of Birkbeck, University of London; she is also an author and playwright and has been awarded Humanist of the Year for services to humanism. For this feature in the Observer published on the 9th of June 1968, she confessed to always wanting to be an opera singer, although she admitted to being tone-deaf!
