Sir Harry Secombe CBE (8 September 1921 – 11 April 2001) was one of Britain's best-loved comic entertainers. Secombe most notably was a member of the radio comedy show "The Goon Show" between 1951-1960.
Duffy photographed a series of prominent figures from the era including Joan Bakewell, Leo Abse, Kingsley Amis, Henry Cooper, Fanny Cradock, Denis Healey, Bruce Lacey, Cliff Michelmore. Flora Robson, Jeremy Thorpe, and George Woodcock for an Observer piece on Childhood Ambitions.
Secombe admitted to being the 'runt of the litter' and longed to be a strongman, hence the weightlifting outfit. The Observer article was published on the 9th of June 1968.
