Francis Wyndham (2 July 1924 – 28 December 2017) graduated from Eton in 1940, spent a year at Oxford University, and then was drafted into the army in 1942. After discovering he was suffering from TB, He was discharged and returned to London where he began writing for The Times Literary Supplement. From 1953 he worked in publishing before becoming an editor at Queen magazine and in 1964 was hired by The Sunday Times where he stayed until 1980.
