MAY 2017 – CANDY CLARKE INTERVIEW

Chris has been in LA for the last week interviewing and gathering footage for a new exhibition by the Duffy Archive premiering in 2018. Candy Clarke played the lead female role in “The Man Who Fell To Earth.” Duffy visited the set in 1976 to shoot David Bowie as “The Thin White Duke” in White Sands, New Mexico for a feature for the Sunday Times.

It’s Halloween and this shot is both spooky and enthralling. In 1975 the Sunday Times magazine commissioned Duffy to go to New Mexico where David was filming filming the cult movie ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’ to take behind the scenes photo’s. At the end of the days filming Duffy persuaded David to go out to White Sands to take some shots but they were running late and by the time they got out there the light was fading fast. With minutes to spare Duffy shot two rolls of film using a long exposure with a triple flash unit that he’d modified. This was the third of five sessions that Duffy and David shot together and the back story to these shoots are covered in the book Duffy Bowie:Five Sessions.
