Duffy's first job in fashion was illustrating for Harper's Bazaar in 1957. He provided distinct line drawings for 3 issues before discovering photography after seeing contact sheets for the first time.
Duffy's photography first appeared in the magazine in October 1962 on the rear news pages of the magazine. However, it was in 1970 as the magazine was merging with Queen that his fashion photography began to regularly appear. Duffy provided features for Harper's and Queen until May 1979 when his career expanded into shooting documentaries and TV commercials.
