Only When I Larf

In 1967 Duffy ventured into the world of moving images forming Deighton Duffy Productions with Len Deighton. Their first project was financed by Paramount Pictures and was the film adaptation of Len Deighton's recently published novel of the same name and released in 1968. A comic thriller which followed the antics of a team of confidence tricksters led by Silas Lowther (Attenborough), his girlfriend Liz Mason (Stewart) and wannabe apprentice Bob (Hemmings) who were attempting to swindle an African state into buying scrap metal instead of anti-tank guns.

The film starred Richard Attenborough, David Hemmings and Alexandra Stewart and was directed by Basil Dearden.

During the 1960's Norman Brand had been Duffy's personal printer and when Duffy put his stills career on hold and his studio went 'on ice'. Norman was without a job and so Duffy offered Norman the position of being the production photographer.

Part of the production took place in Beirut and Norman jumped at the chance and below are some of the behind the scenes photographs.
