FEB 2015 – Remembering Steve Strange 1959-2015

The Duffy Archive was saddened to hear the news that Steve Strange had passed away yesterday. Chris Duffy met Steve thirty-three years ago when he was asked to join the agency ‘The Creative Workforce’ set up by Steve with Rusty Egan and Carol Hayes. During the eighties, Chris photographed Steve on numerous occasions and worked with him styling editorial fashion shoots and became close friends. In 2014 Steve contributed to the Duffy / Bowie Five Session book and the last time we saw Steve was at the opening of the Victoria & Albert Museum David Bowie ‘is’ exhibition where he talked with great passion about work on his new album. Steve’s influence on the London club scene is legendary and culminated in the creation of a new movement The New Romantics, he was a unique character and his input on the fashion and music scene cannot be under estimated. He will be sadly missed.

The artistic link between Duffy, Steve, and Bowie comes together perfectly and encapsulated in the Scary Monsters concept and the ‘Ashes to Ashes’ video.
