Duffy’s fourth shoot with David in 1979 was in Duffy’s north London studio for the Lodger album cover, where David wanted to capture the look of a falling man. Duffy organised that wires were attached to David’s face and then gently tugged to contort it as if he were falling from a great height. That morning, David arrived in the studio with a nasty burn on his hand from a coffee spill and felt that his bandaged hand would add a layer of distress to the photo. Derek Boshier provided the graphics for the album, leading to Boshier and Bowie continuing to work together over the years. Bowie eventually decided to use a Polaroid for the album cover. More images from this shoot are in the book Duffy Bowie:Five Sessions.
