Aladdin Sane - Full length - 1973

During the same session in 1973, Duffy shot a small selection of full-body images. Philip Castle then airbrushed this final image to turn Bowie into a metallic, alien, otherworldly figure. This image appears in the gatefold of the timeless 1973 album Aladdin Sane. Duffy's flash design can also be seen in the image background and on the lyric sleeve of the original record.
Taken by Duffy during the second of Five Sessions with David Bowie – Duffy’s most famous photograph dates from 1973 and is the iconic and revolutionary cover of David Bowie’s album – Aladdin Sane. This shot became the defining look of Bowie’s long career and has been referred to as the “Mona Lisa of pop.”
