SEP 2012 – UNSEEN AMSTERDAM – FOAM MUSEUM

Unseen is the leading platform for contemporary photography. Exclusively focusing on what’s new in the photography world, Unseen provides a channel for up-and-coming talent to showcase their work. Unseen brings together the international photography community to discuss and debate the directions in which the photographic medium is evolving. Unseen is an all year round platform with physical events throughout the year with the main event Unseen Amsterdam returning for its second edition at the Westergasfabriek this September. Unseen Amsterdam aspires to provide novel and diverse approaches to engage with photography. The event does this through combining programme elements such as the Fair, CO-OP, the Book Market and the Living Room, The Exhibition, Onsite Projects, and City Programme.

The Duffy archive has provided Foam and Gallery Vassie a selection of images from the 1973 Pirelli Calendar and other vintage prints signed by Duffy. This exhibition includes some never seen before vintage pieces by Brian Duffy, including this image below ‘The Photographers’, which is an extremely rare piece, capturing together the cream of British photography of that time & including (among others) a self-portrait of Duffy himself, Terence Donovan & David Bailey, from 1976. Which is also signed recto (on the front) by both Duffy & David Bailey in ink.

We are also extremely excited to be exhibiting a very large & imposing unseen image of David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust (above) & a selection of Duffy’s saucy Pirelli Calendar images, from the early 1970s.
