Tom Mashler (b.16 Aug 1933) Jewish by birth his family fled Nazi Vienna for the UK. He traveled widely and worked on a Kibbutz and after his National Service, he started a career in publishing. One of his earliest successes was purchasing Joseph Heller's Catch-22 for £250. Mashler was one of the key figures establishing the Booker Prize in the late 1960s.
