The Konica EE (Electric Eye) Matic rangefinder camera was first introduced in 1963. Duffy shot this iconic advert for the 'Deluxe' version for the Kingsley Manton & Palmer advertising agency in 1965.
Konica was founded in 1873, pre-dating Kodak (1888) when pharmacist Rokusaburo Sugiura began selling photographic materials at his store in Konishiya Rokubē, the biggest pharmacy trader in Tokyo at that time. Konica's single-lens reflex cameras would go on to pioneer auto-exposure in cameras with focal-plane shutters and fully interchangeable lenses. In 2003 Konica merged with Minolta before finally handing over its camera production to Sony in 2006.
