John Cranko (15th August 1927 - 26th June 1973) was a South African born Ballet dancer and choreographer. His work was a major contribution to the international success of German ballet. The John Cranko Society in Stuttgart founded in 1975 promotes knowledge of Ballet and Cranko's work presenting a yearly award in his honor.
Duffy photographed John Cranko for the article "Oh, to be in England..." which promoted Cranko's new production "New Cranks" which debuted at the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith on the 27th April of the same year. The issue was published in April 1960 and featured Duffy's first ever magazine cover. See the picture of Marie Lise Gres here.
