Sunday Times Fashion

The Sunday Times Magazine was first published on 4th February 1962 with a cover shot by David Bailey of Jean Shrimpton wearing a Mary Quant dress – The magazine immediately settled into the swinging sixties and has been a weekly supplement ever since.

Michael Rand, Art Director for the magazine since its launch for 30 years until 1992 said the credo was “Grit plus glamour – fashion juxtaposed with war photography and pop art”.

Duffy was commissioned to shoot for The Sunday Times Magazine between 1962 and 1978. Hundreds of sessions cover fashion, movies, celebrities, national heroes, the Monaco Grand Prix in 1966, David Bowie on the set of The Man Who Fell to Earth in 1976, and many more including shots of regional cooking ideas, hotels in Singapore and a tap dancing tutorial.

This collection of Duffy’s fashion shoots for the Sunday Times include covers of Paulene Stone and Grace Coddington and features on swimwear, triangular shaped fashion and Yves St Laurent’s Autumn collection 1971.
