The Duffy Archive is proud to announce the sale of the original Aladdin Sane dye-transfer print at Bonhams, achieving a new record for album-cover art.
Shot by Duffy in 1973, David Bowie’s lightning-bolt portrait has become one of the most recognisable images in music history. The sale – part of Bonhams’ Mona Lisa of Pop: The Duffy Archive auction in London – confirms Duffy’s lasting influence on both photography and pop culture.
Chris Duffy commented, "Duffy would be honoured to know that 15 years after his passing, that the 'Mona Lisa of Pop' has achieved a world record and cemented its position as a cultural icon."
This landmark result celebrates Duffy’s legacy and highlights the growing recognition of album cover photography as a fine art. The Archive remains committed to preserving and sharing his groundbreaking work with new generations.
